At London Solicitors we have a team of solicitors and paralegals who have experience in Portuguese Immigration Law. If you are looking to work and live in Portugal, our team has helped many clients successfully apply for and get a portugal retirement visa.
This visa is for retired or semi-retired persons (can be of any age) who have sufficient income to remain in Portugal, or people earning from a non-salaried monthly income, regardless of their age and nationality. Known as the D7 visa, this enables the respective holder to first obtain a entry clearance visa for 4 months to enter into Portugal.
Once you are in Portugal you can then extend this residence permit in Portugal for a period of one year, which can then be renewed for successive periods of 2 years and can be converted into a permanent residence permit after 5 years.
In short, the visa allows the foreigner to enter Portugal for the purpose of obtaining a residence permit based on the proven existence of means of livelihood whose value should be transferred to Portugal i.e open a bank account and transfer the foreign earnings to Portugal.
The visa must be requested in any Portuguese consular mission worldwide and is valid for four months. This period of four months will allow the person to enter Portugal in order to apply for the respective residence permit which can then be renewed for successive periods of 2 years and can be converted into a permanent residence permit after 5 years. It is open to all nationalities.
